There is something that happens when you hold one of my handmade mugs. The weight of it settles into your hands. The handle feels like an extension of your hand. The thumb rest is just right. The unique glaze I developed from scratch catches the morning light. For a moment, before your drink cools, or the day begins, you are fully present.

That is the feeling I, Sarah Vekasi, M.Div., set out to create, and the reason every piece is created at Sarah Sunshine Pottery.

To center clay, I center my mind. Each piece is a meditation in action. I am in love with making coordinated dinnerware sets. And wake up excited on teapot making mornings. Making pottery brings me a joy that surpasses words, that I want to pass on to each and every one of you who get to experience using these special vessels. 

I came to pottery through a community class here in Black Mountain back in 2010, and by 2012 purchased my pottery studio near downtown from a retiring potter. In 2021, I was able to purchase a brick and mortar building at 105 Cherry Street in the heart of downtown Black Mountain. Even through the chaos of Covid-19, and the devastation of Hurricane Helene, I have been making and selling pottery, building my team, and creating useful and functional vessels meant just for you.

Making pottery continues to be a daily joy, enhanced by knowing that each piece gets to be used all around the country by shoppers, patrons and collectors like you. Thank you all!
